Cyclops, also known as Scott Summers, is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, most commonly in association with the X-Men. He is a mutant who possesses the ability to shoot powerful beams of concussive force from his eyes. These beams are typically depicted as red-colored, but have appeared to be orange or purple in some cases.
Cyclops was created by writer Stan Lee and artist/co-writer Jack Kirby, and first appeared in X-Men #1 in September 1963. He is one of the original members of the X-Men, along with Angel, Beast, Iceman, and Marvel Girl (later known as Phoenix).
In the comics, Cyclops is depicted as a serious and disciplined team leader, and is often at odds with the more impulsive and free-spirited Wolverine. He has had romantic relationships with Jean Grey (Phoenix) and Emma Frost, and is the father of Cable, a time-traveling mutant.
Cyclops has appeared in numerous adaptations of the X-Men franchise, including animated series, video games, and live-action films. He has been portrayed by actors James Marsden and Tye Sheridan in the live-action films.
